Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries to Prevent Lobster Seeds Smuggling
On August 18, the Head of Fisheries Quarantine Agency of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Rina, stated that as of 23 December 2020 to 15 August 2021, the government had prevented 52 cases of lobster seeds smuggling in 13 locations, including Jambi, East Java, Palembang, Banten, Jakarta, Batam, Mataram, Lampung, Riau Islands, Bandung, Pangkal Pinang, Bengkulu, and Cirebon.
The total lobster seeds that were rescued from these cases reached 3,873,775. The latter consists of 3,710,838 sand lobster seeds and 162,937 pearl lobster seeds, with an estimated valuation of rescued lobster seeds of IDR 159,932,385 (~US$ 11 thousand). The modes used by smugglers include falsifying in-flight documents or disguising lobster seeds by mixing them with vegetables.
